Fayetteville… "A thriving and beautiful village" was the way the New York Tribune described it in 1876 at the height of the trade generated by the Erie Canal. Today, the mailing address of "Fayetteville" (13066) extends far beyond the actual village boundaries into the town of Manlius and neighboring DeWitt.
Although located in the “Town” of Manlius, Fayetteville is located just north of the “Village” of Manlius. This charming hamlet sits at the corners of East Genesee St., Manlius Street and Salt Springs Road. You’ll find the Towne Center Shopping Plaza with stores like Target and Kohls, as well as many small shops.
The prosperity of the local quarries, mills, farms, stores, warehouses and canal boats led to the building of many of the Greek Revival style homes that still line Fayetteville's Genesee St. Hill and are part of the Fayetteville Historic District which was entered on the National Register in 1983.
Today, homes fill the farm fields and orchards that once surrounded the village center. In each neighborhood, parks provide play space. The Erie Canal has become a recreational hiking trail, and Green Lakes State Park on the eastern edge of the village preserves part of a primeval forest with two unusual, deep green colored lakes. The park provides camping, swimming and all sorts of year-round enjoyment.
With a population of over 4,000 people, Fayetteville was once called “home” to United States President Grover Cleveland.
Many professionals now call Fayetteville “home”… whether a luxurious and unique home in the village, or one of the many sub-divisions like Briar Brook, Brookside, Huntleigh Park, Bishops Bluff and Hanson Woods. Close enough to the City of Syracuse and it’s suburbs, yet bordering the countryside that makes Central New York so spectacular… you’ll enjoy Fayetteville and all of its amenities.
