This town, located in Onodaga County, is home to roughly 23,000 residents and was named after the native tribe by the same name. It is just southwest of the city of Syracuse and actually shares borders with it.
The Founding of This NY Town
This 57.8-squrae-mile community was originally inhabited by Native Americans for centuries.
Around 1600, this community became a village that actually served as the capital of the Iroquois League. It wasn’t until 1798 that the community was officially incorporated as a town.

Today this community is home to a number of hamlets, although no villages are located within the town.
